New Moon

What is a New Moon? What is with all the different types of moons, and why should I be so interested in them? I’m so glad you asked.

There are several Moon phases: New Moon, Crescent Moon, First Quarter Moon, Waxing Gibbous Moon, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous Moon, Third Quarter Moon, Waning Crescent Moon, New Moon. While these are all the phases of the Moon, more often than not the four that most people know are the New Moon, First Quarter Moon, Last Quarter Moon, and Full Moon.

The pattern enevidbly changes. Ever flowing, always going. Traditionally, when thinking of a Moon many think that the almighty power is in the Full Moon.

A Full Moon is a great time to let go of anything heavy that was wearing us down. It is a time to cleanse the things that no longer suit us or weigh us down. It really is a time to get rid of the energies that block us from doing what we are intentionalizing within ourselves.

So, what about this New Moon? Sounds like the Full Moon is where it’s at. I disagree. The New Moon, for me, is something that is far more exciting than a Full Moon. The beauty of the New Moon is in it’s intention. The phase of the New Moon is where our best selves are born. During a New Moon, intentions should be set.

What does that look like? Well, it can be as simple, or as complex as you’d like to make it. The New Moon has very powerful energy which you want to harness. One of the best rituatals that can be done is quite simple: setting intentions by writing them down. Woah. Life changing, I know. However, when you look at the reality of the situation, writing your intentions down in a journal, or even a piece of paper have a higher probability of being carried out than those just spoken in your own mind.

Why is that? It holds us accountable.

By doing this one, very simple act every New Moon you manifest all the things you’ve dreamt about in your mind. This now becomes a part of you, and it’s tangible by nature.

Of course, if you’re more advanced in your lunar pursuits, there are plenty of things to keep you busy on the New Moon. Smudge yourself/your space, take a ritual bath, recharge your crystals, make Moon water, burn candles, ground yourself, meditate, or do Yoga.

There is no wrong way, just your way to utilize the New Moon. Even if that means just sitting outside and enjoying the energy it brings to you. You don’t need to dive into the deep end. Take your time. Set intentions. Relax. Read materials if you want to, or don’t…that’s your business.
